Apple To Add Bluetooth To iPods

In an interview with Radio France, Nedelcou let it slip that consumers will soon be able to broadcast music wirelessly from their iPod through their car speakers. Similarly, he said that users will be able to answer incoming phone calls without having to operate their mobile phone handset.

Both tips apparently reference an upcoming device for automobiles, which will include a dock or 'pod' that will allow both an iPod with Bluetooth and a mobile phone device to communicate with car stereos. It's unclear if the device is Apple or Motorola-based.

Cool maybe by the time I manage to get one of Free iPods UK, this might come as standard.

Also I am sure this will open up the option of the much talked about broadcasting over Bluetooth and letting other's listen in to what's playing on your iPod and even record it as well.

As soon as Bluetooth Ipods hit the shops you can start searching the net for home made patches to enable this feature.

Councils Chew Over Gum tax Plan

A first national "gum summit" in London will call for a penny-a-packet tax.

Lib Dem London Assembly member and environment spokesman Mike Tuffrey said: "Chewing gum that is irresponsibly spat on to the street is a nuisance, an eyesore and costing taxpayers millions each year to clean up.

I could not agree more working in a school you would not believe how much gum gets stuck to the under side of desk's its a disgusting habit and I would ban the sale of gum.

As for those who say "Don't tax gum, I always put my gum in the bin." Who is going to admit to discarding it on the floor?

No one as far as I am concerned your all as bad as each other. The amount of people who seem incapable of chewing with the mouth closed never cease to amaze me.
Thanks to Gum I get to look at this site all day long, ban it now! It's worse than smoking.

Broadcast Flag

Over on LuminousVoid there is a transcript of the ongoing fight against the FCC's plans to introduce a broadcast flag to HDTV in the USA to stop home recording on computers.

Today I went to see the oral arguments at the D.C. Circuit Court in American Library Association v. FCC. This case has been described as “just as important as Grokster” to the future of technology and information. Several groups are trying to stop the FCC broadcast flag rules.

Now you may think this is problem just in the USA, but have you ever looked at the parts in your PC, They all conform to FCC standards globally.

So whets to stop UK TV companies taking advantage of the fact that PC HDTV cards in the UK would already have the Flag technology inbeded in them?

Britain Conflicted?

Some of you will remmember the announcement last week that, The UK was number one for downloading TV off the internet most of it from the USA.

This week the BBC is announcing that it is expected that next week, The UK will top a list of country's buying Fair trade good's.

New figures are expected to reveal Britain has overtaken Switzerland to become the biggest fair trade market in the world. The exact number will be announced next week, but is expected to show the UK spends more than £130m a year on ethically-traded products.

That's more than Germany, the United States, France, Italy and Japan - countries with populations roughly equal to, or bigger than, Britain's.

What does that say about us? It's ok to, well I suppose it hard to describe this one, I don't call watching TV of the net stealing, how can it be? After all the broadcasters by their very nature broadcast TV on open air waves for all the see. At most it has to be a preach of copy wright.

So it's ok to steal of big companies who make millions in profit each day, but we want little people to get paid. After all it's ok to steal off the rich after all they have so much any way, there not going to miss it.

The current coffee crisis is a case in point. Coffee prices have been in a five-year slump, but under fair trade schemes growers are paid about $1.20 (62p) for a pound of coffee - roughly double the market price.

Shoppers end up paying more for their jar of fair trade continental roast, but it seems to be a price many British consumers are willing to pay.

I guess the point of all this, is that there is still a sense of fairness in to days modern society.

Camilla Banned From White House

GEORGE Bush has banned Camilla Parker Bowles from the White House - because she is a divorcee.

The unprecedented snub has effectively sabotaged Charles's plan to take his bride on a Royal tour of America later this year.

The trip would have been the pair's first official tour as a married couple.

But the US President - a notoriously right-wing Christian and reformed alcoholic - told aides it was "inappropriate" for him to be playing host to the newly-weds, who are both divorcees.

Will nothing go Wright for the two of them, now it does not even look like they can get married in their local town hall and that they will have to go to Scotland to get married.

I think there is only one way to deal with this next time any American VIP want to meet the queen, just say sorry you can not come you believe in god. Ofcurse that's never going to happen.

Ajax

I had never heard of Ajax, before reading Jesse James Garrett paper Ajax: a New Approach to Web Applications. It's not suprizing ether, if you search Google for Ajax you get nothing. Only when you search for Ajax Application's do you get any results and even then there are only two in the first ten page's that are to do with Ajax as being talked about here.

Altought you like me you may not have heard of Ajax you will have used it, both Google Suggest and Google Maps are examples of Ajax.

What is Ajax well for that I will give you Jesse's definition it's far more accurate than any I could give,

Defining Ajax

Ajax isn’t a technology. It’s really several technologies, each flourishing in its own right, coming together in powerful new ways. Ajax incorporates:

It's not so much any one language but an integrated method of using many preexisting methods that are already available in new ways. There is no “Ajax engine” commonly in use that one could download or copy (although JSPAN’s nearly there in the PHP world).

Let me try and explain it in my own words,

Rather than having to make requests for information from your computer all the way back to the server, the idea behind Ajax is that you have a mini server almost, on your computer a sort of client.

The client on your PC makes all the requests on your behalf to the main server, all the page generation and formatting is done on your PC and the data to fill thous page's is held on the website's main server.

As Ajax become's more popular and established I would expect to see more web sites using this technique in the future.

After much speculation about who would be the "new" gay character in the Simpsons it turned out to be Patty one of Marge's twin sister's.

It just a shame that fox could not be bothered to do more with the web site, after going to the trouble of regstering it they could only be bothered to put up 3 stills from the episode.

SHUT THE CELL UP

Unsuspecting cellphone users may find themselves saying that more often now that cellphone jammers — illegal gizmos that interfere with signals and cut off reception — are selling like hotcakes on the streets of New York
Has to be some of the worst grammar I have ever seen published in a news paper. Ok so my spelling and grammar is not the best in the world, but at least I have an excuse. I was diagnosed as being dyslexic at the age of five.

Why would some one who was using a cell phone say shut the cell up? Surely it's the people with the illegal phone jammers who are saying shut the cell up?

Also the whole tone of the article is disturbing, it practicaly encourages people to go out and buy these things saying,

But don't expect to find jammers at the local Radio Shack — they're against Federal Communications Commission regulations because they interfere with emergency calls and the public airwaves. They are illegal to buy, sell, use, import or advertise.

A violation means an $11,000 fine, but the FCC's Enforcement Bureau has yet to bust one person anywhere in the country.

"This is not a crime that they're going after," said Rob Bernstein, deputy editor at New York City-based Sync magazine.

Now I have seen these before you can get key ring jammers in Tokyo for a bit of fun that stop your mates phones from working, they have a very limited range thou. The idea being that you have to walk up to your mate and be with in a meter, Not hiding on the other side of the train.

What sort of message are they sending these devices are illegal for a reason, they are band not only in the USA but all across the European union too, Infact the only places I know where you can buy them is Japan and then only the toy ones with limited range.

Should London host the Olympics?

Is the question being asked by the BBC, Personally I think we should host the Olympics but not nesisary in one of the most over crowded cites on the planet.

Any Londoner you ask will tell you how bad public transport is now. Never mind if you double or terribly th amount of tourists in London. The aging underground system is in desperate need of an upgrade.

Unfortunate there is no way that thou's in power would ever even consider hosting the games out side London never mind actually let it happen.

Oh, when will British people stop moaning, get behind a British project and support it wholeheartedly, without being pessimistic or ironic about it. I bet you anything the French and the Americans don't question whether the Olympics should go to their country one single bit. I really hope London wins the bid. I certainly will be cheering on!
Raluca, Brit in the States

I think this poster some's up the view of the rest of the world, but you miss the whole point of being British, the rest of you see all the good in the games. We only see the down side of hosting the game, the mounting costs, congestion, terrorism, the fact that shooting is now illegal in this country and would have to go else where.

Naturally, I'm hopeful the Olympics come to this country. Where, exactly, isn't an issue for me. However, I conjure up embarrassing pictures of the chaos we've come to expect when we attempt anything second nature to our European neighbor's. On the opening day, leaves on the tracks will probably bring all trains in and out of the capital to a halt and pubs and restaurants will be denied extended licensing hours just when the rest of the normal world could do with a drink or two. Welcome to try-hard Britain!
Patrick V. Staton, Guildford, UK
I think this sum's up the state of the UK very well at the moment Welcome to try-hard Britain. Were not real good at any thing, Britain is a nation without pride it has been beaten out of us by the politicians and their political correctness.

We are the only nation that actively tells it's self that we can not be proud of are achievements because the people we beat might be upset. Would you ever here that from an American?

I think not, we are even at point where we are considering renaming Trafalgar square because it upsets the French! The French for Fuck's sake. When was the last time we cared what they think?

The people of Gibraltar are more British than we are and look what we are trying to do to them, make them Spanish. It's so uncool to be British that we don't even make people coming to live here speak English. No one in London speak's it and if you go down to your local council now there first thing the do is tell you that the forms are available in 37 other languages, but I digress.

To some up yes I would like the game to come to London, after all we have never actual won the right to host the Olympics. Altought the games have twice been to London both times they have been held in London because the United kingdom (when was the last time some one used that title with devolution in full effect) was the only country that could host them both times where after the two world wars.

It would be nice to win the games rather than have them handed to us as a reward for saving the world from the German's.

AirPort Express

The AirPort Express is apples latest offering, with a tie in to Itunes or as they are now calling it Air Tunes. The Airport allows you to plug any set of powered speakers into the lineout and play mp3's form you Mac or PC to any where in your house.

You can even have Multiple devices connected to speaker's throughout your house and play the same song through them all. Ideal for house party's, best of all if you have noisy old PC like mine it lets you put it in another room so you don't have to have, the TV on so loud to hide the fans spinning in the PC.

I can see these being used to make a home entertainment system, rather than running wires all round your house you could just put a set of speaker's in the ceiling power them and put and AirPort up there with them, you can even send different songs to different Aiports on the same network so as to have the kids with music in one room and you in another each with your own tunes.

The only thing that puts me off this device is that for my personal use. I need something that can take video wirelessly. So I can watch "Home" videos from my PC, downstairs while I am working on them.

I would say the AirPort is one to watch out for it was not long before Mac minis started to go into cars. I don't think it will take long ether for some one to rig up a house with bunch of these and some speakers. After all with itune's and an ipod all your media is digital any way.

Quick Links, On Blogging

There is a bit over on CNN.com about how 6 apart started, nothing to indepth but interesting never the less.

SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- Like so many other 20-somethings hoping to mine the Internet gold rush of the late 1990s, Mena Trott was thrown for a humbling loop by the dot-com bust, yet still craved stardom. Her unassuming husband, Ben, just wanted another computer programming gig in Silicon Valley's depressed job market.

The guardian online has a bit by Iain Duncan Smith ex leader of the conservative party. It seams to be based more on his hopes rather than facts, that the UK blogging scene will replicate the successes of the US bloggers who have made such an inpacked upon US politics.

Personal I think he is flying on a wing and a prayer with this one, to many in the UK have been turned off politics with lie's and spin. I can see not for profit organizations starting news site's to police the government, but find it hard to believe there will be any mass take up by the general population for political blogs, Its hard enuth find UK political blogs as it is. With the medium being so dominated by the US bloggers.

Protect Your MP3's

After following a random link on the blogdex I found openwares.org,

Openwares.org is a public Open Source and Freeware software development web site, providing free publishing, packaging, hosting, and marketing services to individual developers.

The mission of Openwares.org is to enrich the global internet community by providing software developers who lack the time, money or knowledge a centralized place to publish, control and market their creations at no cost. To fulfill this mission goal, we offer a variety of services to projects we host and we only ask that all projects shall be provided freely and without any attachments to the general public.

Now one of the projects that they are hosting is a niec little plug in that can check to if your mp3 files on your hard drive have become corrupted. It also has a handy little future that will also check to see if mp3's you donwload of the net have been corrupted, MP3 Shield integrates seamlessly into any Kazaa Media Desktop client to automatically scan MP3 files that are being downloaded and filter out corrupted songs.

Could you ask for more? You can get a copy from here.

BRICS Alliance (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa)

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese authorities decided to form the strategic alliance for defense, trade and energy. Russia will deliver oil to China and China will collaborate with Russia in Geopolitical strategic defense of Euresia.

Another cold war for Europe to be stuck in the middle of, but I am sure lap dog Blair will side with God, or should that be Bush like a good little boy.

Abstinence

At first I could not decide whether or not these two sites where real or not, until i saw that they where from the whitehouse.org. Which I am sure at one point used to be a porn site or was that .com, any way they go very close to the bone especial when you think about their target audience.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the campaign contributions of the Southern Baptist Convention, do hereby proclaim "IRON HYMEN" and "SEX IS FOR FAGS!" to be the future of American abstinence-only education. I call upon our youth, parents, educators, and all pastors of the United States to embrace these programs enthusiastically, and apply the great wisdom contained therein in the pursuit of immaculately chaste and anti-libidinal lives.

Alanis Morissette Becomes U.S. Citizen

The 30-year-old singer was among some 4,500 people who took the citizenship oath during a ceremony last week at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Morissette isn't turning her back on Canada — she's maintaining dual citizenship.

"I will never renounce my Canadian citizenship," Morissette said in a statement Wednesday. "I consider myself a Canadian-American.

"There was a turning point during the ceremony where I felt connected to this country in a way that I didn't quite expect," she said. "America has been really great to me and I have felt welcomed since the day I came here."

Some are trying to play this up as being Ironic in the post Bush days where some 18,000 Americans are expect to move to Canada but I am sure it's all about tax .
