Toward The Terra

I am going to say this now, Toward The Terra is better than sliced bread or if you want more exuberance IT'S FUCKING BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!

I am franticly waiting for the next episode to be aired in Japan, there are only 4 left, for some reason nobody is talking about Toward The Terra (So everybody who is talking about Toward the Terra is saying) I don't know why? Its great so good that I am not even going to try and tell you what its like (lest we rember my review of Koutetsu Sangokushi) so I am going to "quote" some one else's review and give a link back to them.

A lot of great anime premiered in the 2007 spring season. In fact, there is too much to mention, and for that reason, I suppose many people overlooked Toward the Terra. I struggled through the first four or five episodes and was feeling pretty apathetic about it myself.

The truth is that it begins with a very cliché first five episodes – basically, our hero Jomy, the blonde pretty boy with psychic powers, inadvertently uncovers this gigantic government conspiracy and after barely escaping with his life, joins the rebel forces in escaping the genocidal forces of mankind. It’s fairly standard science fiction stuff, especially in this post-Matrix era, and it seems worse because it’s directed in such a melodramatic fashion.

Everything changes when we meet Keith Anyan, an artificial human groomed by “mother” (the all controlling computer system) to be the perfect soldier. Keith is the primary villain of the show, but when we first meet him, he is but a promising young man training for an “elite” career in the military. There is little or no hint of the demon that as of episode 17, willingly unleashes the “flames of hell” by firing the Megido, a gigantic, planet destroying weapon worthy of Gunbuster.

I’m writing all this because I’m falling for Toward the Terra. It makes exciting use of a fascinating narrative structure that, over the last 17 installments, has made several decade-long time leaps; we’ve seen confused teenagers growing into charismatic leaders as an entire race of people (the Mu – Jomy’s race of psychic humans) immigrate across space and settle on an uninhabited planet, only to be blasted off when the humans hunt them down. There are no fillers or “padding” episodes, every scene is dense with plot, moving the narrative ever onwards. As it turns out, Towards the Terra has a lot to say.

This is a series that doesn’t much care for human nature and our fear of the unknown. Understandably, the Mu just want to live in peace, but typically, us humans aren’t having it. This is underpinned with a healthy mistrust of technology – as pointed out above, modern man is controlled for his own good by “mother”; an evil computer system apparently inflicted with the same fears, discrimination and concerns as ourselves.

Jomy and Keith are two sides of the same coin; Jomy’s an ardent pacifist with his heart set on peace, only using his immense powers to protect, while Keith is the perfect soldier; he follows every order, no matter how morally redundant; he is programmed to hate - he is a monster. On an individual basis, the Mu is so much stronger than the average human, yet they are good-willed people, and therefore, pushovers. However, that’s all about to change as in one of the most interesting developments yet, the latest generation of Mu children born on the destroyed planet of Nasca have inherited that “will of the flame” and like their human enemies, are strong-willed, aggressive and powerful. The message? Hate begets hate. Basically, the bully is about to get pay-back; sucks to be human!

It’s an interesting twist of ideologies. Jomy will have to try and reign in on the growing aggression within the Mu and teach them that an eye for an eye will do nothing but perpetuate the violence, while Keith, sooner or later, will be forced to question his orders and recognise the value of every life, human or otherwise.

With all this in mind, I have to admit that I’m disappointed by the small number of people watching Toward the Terra. No doubt, many will be turned off by the straight laced, conservative characterisation; there is little to no humour, crude fan-service or eccentricities; it’s very serious. Similarly, the retro-1980s aesthetic is rarely popular these days. All of this, coupled with the generic opening episodes, appear to have resulted in a relatively small audience and honestly, it’s a great shame - the thought provoking and fascinating Toward the Terra deserves better.

Review stolen (hay lets be honest about it) from the Bateszi Anime blog

(One thing I would like to point out is that there is no advertising on that reivew, on the hosting site, so I dont feel like i am depriving them of any revinue unlike a few of the other reviews which did seam to be on add supported site's.)

Looks like they have done a bit of an up date on the look and feel of the show, along with and update of designs for the units. Nothing out of the ordinary thou.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Ok as much as I loved Neon Genesis Evangelion, I don't have a fucking clue what happened in the last two episodes or why the last "Angel" was gay and Shinji Ikari the quietest guy you would ever meet who has the hots for Rei Ayanami the quietest girl you would ever meet suddenly has the hots for some guy/"Angel" from out space who is here to destroy him!

In the last two episodes, Gendo and Rei initiate the Human Instrumentality Project, forcing several characters to face their doubts and fears and examine their self-worth. This focuses primarily on Shinji, particularly in episode 26. Initially, Shinji attempts to run away from this internal confrontation, but eventually accepts himself for who he is. This ending, made up of flashbacks, strange, sketchy artwork, and flashing text, left many fans confused and unsatisfied. A year later, a second ending was released theatrically.

The final two episodes were possibly the most controversial segments of a controversial series,[12], and were received as flawed and incomplete[13]. However, Anno and and deputy director Kazuya Tsurumaki defended the artistic integrity of the finale.[14][15]

Any way this is, all just a long winded excuse for me to say they are making a Neon Genesis Evangelion movie called Rebuild of Evangelion, I was going to link to youtube then, but why lets just watch it here instead,

Koutetsu Sangokushi Parody

Lu Xun: Go, Pleasure Rangers!

It would apear that I am not the only one who thinks that Koutetsu Sangokushi's lack of any female charecters is rather strange/funny. Karura over on Azure Flame Reloaded runs a nice parody for each episode, Ep one starts on Azure Flame and they are currently up to ep 11 over on Azure Flame Reloaded (Don't ask me I don't have a clue why they moved URL's) Ether way they do quite a good job of summing up the Homosexual under tones of the show.

Koutetsu Sangokushi

Episode 01 of Koutetsu Sangokushi. (English subbed).

The Imperial Seal has been passed down through the generations since ancient times. It confers great power unto the warriors that it chooses. This is the story of those warriors.
It is a time of chaos and of civil war. It is a time when great armies clash in titanic battles and great heroes carve their names in history. It is also a time of death and destruction, when the people of the land live in constant fear of the sword. Onto this stage steps the reluctant Rikuson (Lu Xun), whose family had been the guardians of the Imperial Seal up until it was stolen by Sonsaku. At the behest of his mentor Rikuson offers his services to Sonsaku with the intention of confirming the will of the Imperial Seal. However, assassins strike down Sonsaku and the Imperial Seal is lost. So begins, Rikuson’s journey to recover the Imperial Seal and discover his destiny. (from AniDB)
So there I am desperately seeking out Heroic Age episode 18 doing my usual search of all the fan sub haunts doing my best to put off actually having to read Megatokyo book 4 (Partly because I have yet to read all of 2 and any of book 3, book 5 has sat on shelf for a year and I am still disappointed that I missed out on the first print run of book 4 so its a second edition unlike all the others which are first edition. That and the fact I don't even go to Megatokyo any more cos well I have the books now, god why is life so complicated? Did I mention the back of book 4 is covered in warn marks and looks like its been pushed around the floor? Well who cares it's only a 2nd edition? Obviously I DO!) When I stumbled across ThirteenSugars post about "The excuses I made not to watch certain spring season shows" and ended up reading her (I am guessing it's a she ether that or guy who drinks really sweat coffee) list of anime.

Obviously Heroic Age was on it, Hence why it showed up on goggle, I read down the list just because I am the sort of guy that has to read every link and open every link just in case there is something new on a page. That I would not have found if I had not been nosey and delved that little deeper, I personally find that I find all sorts of new things by just taking the time to look at the stuff that most people would just hit back on, and carry on looking for what every it was they where looking for.

Any way's at the bottom of the list was,

"Koutetsu Sangokushi: I cannot tell who’s male or female."

Well that meant I just had to watch it after if I paid any attention to comments like that I would have never watched Ouran high school social club and that's fucking brilliant! (Yes I don't normally swear on here but I don't normally type this much late a night ether or rant and meander this much I promise at some point I will actually talk about Koutetsu Sangokushi) So off I went to Stage 6 (By the way and I am sure I have said it before Stage 6 is fast becoming the replacement for youtube. That place is just to hot and the video quality is crap. where as Stage 6 is Divx can be full screened with out any extra pissing about and you can save the videos once you have watched them! and its full of anime fan subs! Thou if your a rights holder you can just ignore that last bit, please don't take away my fan subs you never realise stuff in the UK any way!) and found some English subbed fan subs (Stage 6 always seams to be full of French and Spanish fan subs) of Koutetsu Sangokushi.

Lets just say it right off the bat never mind "I cannot tell who’s male or female." every one is male! Even the poor men who have been drawn to look like girls are male, and why O why they made Romi Paku or some one that sounds so close to him it may as well be him ( The voice of Edward Elric Of Full Metal Alchemist) do the voice for Ling Tong? I don't know, In fact even I thought it was girl until he opened his mouth and I was like "hay that's the Full Metal Alchemist" and he made a oath on some cherry blossom which then fell (and we all know what falling cherry blossom means!) about being brothers with some guy he had known for less than 5 minutes I was like, he must be a guy after all you would not call your self some one's brother if you where a girl?

Any way (god are you actually still reading this drivel?) the storey is set in accent china from what I can tell and is about a boy called Hakugen Rikuson who is the last of his people and has been trained to fight by what looks like a woman with a fan who has the hots for him, but turns out to be guy (Koutetsu Sangokushi) who well manges to make every scene they have together seam well incestuous and wrong in some way, but don't worry he is only in the first ep from what I have seen, thou he may be in flash backs in the future that tends to be the way these things work.

Hakugen Rikuson (left) Koutetsu Sangokushi (right)

Any way this guy tells him to go and find the "shining light" (Imperial Seal) which is the supper power for this anime. Hakugen 's farther once protected the light but was killed in fount of him and he blocked it out cos it was such a horrid memory. The two of them sit down and watch a battle unfold where one side Gi has an army 3 times the size of that of the other army "Go", but the "Go" army is going places and their king has the "light".

Go wins OFC, and are hero Hakugen now knows where the "Imperial Seal" is Koutetsu promptly abandons him, after all it's time he ran his own life (and there was a red star in the sky, which must have been from logans run. Koutetsu is to old to be seeing little boys now and must return for it is his time for carousel) . There is only so much training one can be given. Hakugen (for no apparent reason) decides that it would be best if he went to work for the "go" army's king so he can see what sort of man he is and if he is worthy of the "light".

Sonsaku is promptly killed after interviewing Hakugen and recognising him from the day he killed his farther and took the "imperial Seal" which holds the "light". Just as your thinking Yay a fight to death surely, 3 masked men who look like JAWA from Star Wars turn up to steal the seal. In the resulting fight Sonsaku is killed and the seal in thrown upinto the AIR Hakugen gets sucked into the seal to see the light and is given new special powers with which he has to defend it, but the power is to great and he can not control it. That and his arm is on fire and he is shitting him self, but not to worry as setting his arm on fire seams to be his new power.

I am going to leave it there before I give away any more of the plot of Koutetsu Sangokushi, despite the fact that every one, even people who look like women are men, even the kings brother who I could have swan was a woman, until they started to talk about making him king and calling him lord. Its still worth watching and its nice to watch something different now and then.

Run Fatboy Run

Overly lazy and commitment-phobic, Dennis (Simon Pegg) suffers a minor breakdown and ditches his pregnant girlfriend Libby (Thandie Newton) at the altar. Five years later, Dennis realizes just how big a mistake he made. But just as Dennis sets out with his young son to woo her back, he learns that a flashy new suitor (Hank Azaria) has claimed her heart. So, in order to win her back, Dennis decides to prove himself by training for his first marathon with over-sexed best friend (Dylan Moran) as his coach. In way over his head, Dennis' pathetic attempt culminates in what may be the most spirited but hilarious race ever run.

I love Simon pegg and have spaced and Sawn of the dead on DVD, I can not wait to go see this, hot fuzz was a little slow to begin with but the ending was worth it, i just hope this one does not drag at the start too.

5 Centimeters Per Second

“Do you know?

The speed at which cherry blossoms fall…

“5 Centimetres Per Second.”

5 Centimetres Per Second, a chain of short stories about their distance.” is a compilation of 3 independant short stories that revolves around the life of a boy as we slowly observe the changes in his life from the early 90’s all the way up to the present, devoied of Shinkai’s typical sci-fi/fantasy settings.

The graphics are to die for, this the epitome of the hand drawn style we associate with Japan, revolving around the theme of distance, the film is anything but Cherey but would a rose not smell so sweet?

Bleach Anime

Thanks to TV-Links all I have done for the last three nights is watch Bleach,

Bleach revolves around the 15-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki (黒崎一護), a Teenager with an unusual power--the power to see ghosts. However, this power is turned against him on one fateful night when he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a shinigami (死神 - Death God / Soul Reaper). Suddenly, Ichigo is thrown into a war between the good guys (Soul Society) and the Bad Guys (the Hollows). Together with the help of Chad, Orihime, and Ishida, will Ichigo rise and destroy the corruption within Soul Society itself...?
I have to say I am likeing what I have seen so far, its shame we never get any anime in uk not unless its kids stuff :( Any way there is a nice site where you can dl the ep's don't know how long they stick around for as TV-Links only goes to ep 40 atm, bleachanime.org

Flickr Porn

Yep that's right Flickr is full of porn, and not the sort you think, Its all high quality porn. There is a huge underground network of people uploading porn, on a huge scale. I have one contact who has uploaded 30k of images and that just of one guy.

Now you can not just go around searching for this porn, especial not since Flickr implemented "safe search" and content filtering, it's all been locked away under the contact system.

Basically all the images are up loaded as visible to friends only, so you have to be someones contact to be able to see them the images are not searchable, and the only possible way to stumble upon the images is to join some of the sex themed groups.

If some one who has marked an image "Friends only" submits an image to a group you can see the thumb nail while browsing that groups thumb nails but when you click on the thumb nail you get the massage "This user has no images available to you.".

Odds are that if you mark this person as a contact they will mark you as a contact back, and you will now be able to see all their uploaded smut. It does not matter what sort of contact you make them, as it is the type of contact they make you that lets you see their images.

To get you started you can try adding, comeinplz (For images of ladies and lesbians with huge tits. Thou he has only just started out so does not have that much atm.) or you can try jeansgay56 (For gay porn).

I found once one of these people adds you as a contact then more and more come out of the wood work and you get lots of random people adding you as a contact, all uploading porn for free.

DRM Die's A Death Even Before It Gets To The Shops!

Just in case you didn't already piece it together, many (if not all) of the new HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles set for release on May 22nd will feature the latest revisions to AACS. Right, the update hinted at by those forced user updates to the WinDVD and PowerDVD software. Yeah, well no worries... it's cracked. That's right, a week before the disks have even hit the shops, the kids over at Slysoft have already released AnyDVD HD 6.1.5.1 (beta) which kicks AACS MKB v3 swiftly to the curb. Thus you can continue to rip all your newly purchased HD DVD and BD flicks for playback any damn way you like. The update has already been demonstrated to work with an early-shipped release of The Matrix Trilogy on HD DVD and will likely work for Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest when it arrives on Blu-ray. Come on AACS LA, you're gonna have to at least try. Better yet, why not just give up this silly charade.
Hehe all I can say is that if any one deserves to lose millions of $'s its the MPAA and Hollywood, they treat customers like shit, I am sick of going the cinema and being told not to steel the film or tape it to take pictures of it and watch it on the net.

I mean come on I am the one who is paying to see the thing in the first place so why are they lecturing me?

Whats even worse is the crappy footage they claim to be what pirated DVD's are like, making it look like your watching it on a Mobile phone when we all know that you can get DVD quality footage off the net.

If they insit on over charging and covering the product in DRM then they deserve nothing but death.

Sheep sold as poodles

God this actually made me laugh out loud for a good 5 mins,

Thousands of Japanese people have apparently been scammed into buying "poodles" that are actually sheep with fancy haircuts. The scam was uncovered after actress Maiko Kawakami showed a photo of her pet poodle on TV and commented that it "didn't bark and refused to eat dog food," according to a Metro.co.uk article. After being informed that the poodle was a sheep, police lines rang with other rubes telling the same story. From Metro.co.uk:

'We launched an investigation after we were made aware that a company was selling sheep as poodles,' a police spokesman told The Sun.

'Sadly, we think there is more than one company operating in this way.

'The sheep are believed to have been imported from overseas - Britain and Australia.'

Thanks to BoingBoing for the fun.

Curse of the Golden Flower

I have just come home after watching Sony's "Curse of the Golden Flower". All I can say is I have never been so disappointed. The fact that there where only two people in the cinema should have said it all.

The film its self is fine, it is the way it is marked that is the problem, If i could have found the UK trailer for you I would have posted a link.

The UK Trailer basically sells the film as a war between an King and Queen of two different lands and the queen seams to have a tone of gold, or some magical way of making gold, or a flower that grows gold, any way she has a shit load of gold and he wants it and they go to war over it.

Instead you get a long drawn out love storey which just board me to death, any way if you where planning to see this film based on the UK trailer on TV then i would say think again.

The only good thing about seeing this film was the novelty value of being able to talk all the way thought it rather that sitting in silence.

Will The EU make you a Copy Criminal?

On April 24th, the European Parliament will vote on IPRED2, the Second Intellectual Property Enforcement Directive. With one stroke, they risk turning thousands of innocent EU citizens and businesses into copycriminals.

If IPRED2 passes in its current form, "aiding, abetting, or inciting" copyright infringement "on a commercial scale" in the EU will become a crime.

The entertainment industry has made it clear that it sees sites like YouTube, P2P software, and even ISPs as "inciting" infringement. With IPRED2, the industry is pressuring governments in Europe to use taxpayers' money to enforce these prohibitive ideas of intellectual property. If IPRED2 were to become law, entertainment companies would even be able assist police in an official role as part of transnational "joint investigation teams."

Even though this represents a huge change in how intellectual property will be treated under the law, many terms in IPRED2 are left unclear or undefined -- including "commercial scale" and "incitement." Companies or individuals crossing these fuzzy lines can face permanent bans on doing business, as well as seizure of assets, criminal records, and fines of up to €100,000.

EFF Europe, together with other European activist groups, is working hard in Brussels to fix IPRED2. Send a message to the European Parliament, and receive up-to-date information, by visiting the copycrime website and signing our petition now!

Thanks to BoingBoing, for getting the word out, But dont just stop at signing the pettion go and email your EMP!

‘Millions to rebel’ over ID cards

The government is predicting that some 15m people will revolt against Tony Blair’s controversial ID card scheme by refusing to produce the new cards or provide personal data on demand.
I read this little gem hidden away in the corner of my Sunday time's, almost as if they did not want any one to notice it, so I thought I would put it up here and find you a link to the web site.

Personally I don't think ID cards are worth it they wont stop a thing and will just make criminals of us all, we need a poll tax style revolt to put them in their place, and get the government to abandon this idea.

I have to say i love this add its getting old now, but i still like it.

TV Needs You!

Yay evil coprate over lords are trying to attack our rights to control the products we buy, they are trying to take over the TV again, (not that I really want a TV in this day and age its all crap or American, a 50" LCD computer monitor would be grate cos then I would not have to pay for TV Licence for no reason.)

  • Enforcing severe home recording and copying limitations. CPCM will allow content providers to apply copy restriction labels to broadcast streams. For example, a program could be marked as "Copy Never." In turn, your DVRs and others devices receiving the signal will have to obey and forbid copying even for home use. A content provider could opt to allow recording but still enforce a multitude of restrictions on copying to other devices.
  • Imposing controls on where you watch a program. Even if you are given permission to move a program to your laptop or other portable devices, "geography controls" may kick in and stop playback once you leave home or a particular locale. These restrictions may be enforced using tamper-proof GPS receivers built in to your devices. CPCM can also be used to block sending video to yourself over your own home network or the Internet, among other things.
  • Dictating how you get to share shows with your own family. CPCM can be used to examine, for instance, the frequency with which devices are connected to a personal network and determine whether your sharing is within an "Authorized Domain" Absurdly, DVB spent significant time arguing over what happens to a digital video in case of a divorce!
  • Breaking compatibility with your devices. You may have already invested in new high definition displays and receivers that rely on component analog connections or unrestricted digital outputs, but CPCM will allow the studios to arbitrarily block these connections. In other words, individual copyright holders can turn your gadgets into oversized paperweights. CPCM- restricted media will also be able to carry blacklists and revoke compatibility with particular devices that don't enforce Hollywood's restrictions sufficiently.

  • Any way if you relay care you can read the whole thing over on the EFF web page, and then maybe you can write to your MP.

    95% of Britons had urinated, vomited or defecated in public

    Others take more drastic steps. Research by ENCAMS, an environmental charity, showed 95 percent of Britons had urinated, vomited or defecated in public because no toilet was available.

    Public urination ``is one of the unfortunate aspects of London,'' said Aidan Onn, 36, who runs a toyshop called Playlounge in Soho. ``The streets always stink.''

    YAY come to Britan we have worse facilitys than china!

    In Beijing, where the average salary is a 10th of London's, there are 7,700 toilets, or one for every 1,948 people. China's capital plans to renovate 3,700 in time for the 2008 Olympics. London, which will host the 2012 games and has one toilet per 18,000 residents, has no such plans.

    YAY Profits over the people

    ``It's not cost-effective to keep them,'' said Tony Wood, a real estate agent who helped convert a multi-stalled Victorian- era toilet in Forest Hill into a split-level apartment that rents for 700 pounds a month.

    Wel lets face it its not just london that has this problem its every where, I can think of only one public toilet in all of liverpool that I know of that still works, and that cost 20p at the top ov bold street well, well out of the main shopping route, thou is handy if you on the way to china town.

    Down Time

    If your some sort of addcit you may have noticed the down time, this was due to the move from the blogger url to my own url, I have been redirecting WWW.The13thcolony.com to the blogger addy for ages.

    But thanks to goolge and the new blog settings I can now give out my own addy and have perm links to it rather than the blogger one. It still points here so you still get to the blog, but the new main URL is, WWW.The13thcolony.com

    Boycott the RIAA in March

    Over on Gizmodo they have decided to hit the RIAA where it hurts their wallet's.

    Alright, we've been following the RIAA's increasingly frequent affronts to privacy and free speech lately, and it's about time we stopped merely bitching and moaning and did something about it. The RIAA has the power to shift public policy and to alter the direction of technology and the Internet for one reason and one reason alone: it's totally loaded. Without their millions of dollars to throw at lawyers, the RIAA is toothless. They get their money from us, the consumers, and if we don't like the way they're behaving, we can let them know with our wallets.
    So why not head over and check them out and take part, if your not part of the solution your part of the problem.

    US copyright lobby out-of-touch

    Over on the Beeb web site there is great "bit" about how the US has double standards on copy right.

    Second, in a classic case of "do what I say, not what I do", many countries are criticised for copyright laws that bear a striking similarity to US law. For example, Israel is criticised for considering a fair use provision that mirrors the US approach.

    The IIPA is unhappy with the attempt to follow the US model, warning that the Israeli public might view it as a "free ticket to copy." Similarly, the time shifting provisions in New Zealand's current copyright reform bill (which would permit video recording of television shows) are criticised despite the fact that US law has granted even more liberal copying rights for decades.

    Chines New Year, Year of the Pig

    Chines New Year Pigs

    Chines new year unlike the pagen new year we celebrate in the west, starts on the first day of the new year containing a new moon this means that it tends to be in the last week of jannuary or the first two weeks of feb (thou very very rearley can be in the 3rd week of feb).

    All this got me to thinking what my chines sign is, so I had a quick look on the net and wiki (OFC) and I am a Metal Monkey.

    After reading up about the Metal Monkey and their trates I had to admit it did sound a lot like me, thou I am very concered about one of the later trate's in the list for Metal Monkey's on wiki,

    Metal

    * The West
    * Autumn
    * The Planet Venus
    * The Color White
    * Respiratory system & Lungs
    * Determined, Self-reliant
    * Unyielding, Strong
    * Persistent, Forceful
    * Emocation, Suicidal, pleasure
    * Reserved, Needs Personal Space

    'Governs' Monkey, Rooster, Dog

    In case you can not guess which one freeks me out lets make it stand out "Suicidal". Hum tbh I would not care so much but I have to say every last trate on the list is me down to a T.

    Every room I have been left to decorate my self has always been plain old white, I definatley need my personal space, am very recerved untill I get a bottle of vodka inside me.

    God my name even means "West Field", I have never liked beeing out in the sunny and always prefered the cooler Autumn.

    But then I also guess you read as much or as little in to these things as you want.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

    HD DRM Is Dead.

    Those cooky kids over at the Doom9 forums hate themselves some DRM. Not more than two months after discovering a means to extract the HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc "volume keys" to decrypt AACS DRM on individual films, we're now getting word that DRM hacker arnezami has found the "processing key" used to decrypt the DRM on all HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc films. Let's break this down for what it is: instead of needing individual keys for each and every high-definition film -- of which there are many -- the processing key can be used to unlock, decrypt, and backup every HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc film released so far. As arnezami points out, "nothing was actually hacked, cracked or even reverse engineered." All he had to do was keep an eye on his memory, watch what changed, and voila... the processing key appeared. So kick back and watch the trickle of HD titles hitting the torrents quickly turn into a flood (at ~20GB a pop, that's not an exaggeration) when the BackupHDDVD and BackupBluray utilities (or AnyDVD HD) are updated to reflect the new hack find.
