HD DRM Is Dead.

Those cooky kids over at the Doom9 forums hate themselves some DRM. Not more than two months after discovering a means to extract the HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc "volume keys" to decrypt AACS DRM on individual films, we're now getting word that DRM hacker arnezami has found the "processing key" used to decrypt the DRM on all HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc films. Let's break this down for what it is: instead of needing individual keys for each and every high-definition film -- of which there are many -- the processing key can be used to unlock, decrypt, and backup every HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc film released so far. As arnezami points out, "nothing was actually hacked, cracked or even reverse engineered." All he had to do was keep an eye on his memory, watch what changed, and voila... the processing key appeared. So kick back and watch the trickle of HD titles hitting the torrents quickly turn into a flood (at ~20GB a pop, that's not an exaggeration) when the BackupHDDVD and BackupBluray utilities (or AnyDVD HD) are updated to reflect the new hack find.

Yahoo Wii on Flickr users!

Yay its started already yahoo is using Flickr users photos to sell crap on wii.yahoo.com. We all said they where EVIL! But now we have it in glorious technicolor.

All images tagged with "Wii" where showing up in the little flickr stip on this Yahoo whoring site where they try and make a few bucks off recyled Wii news, even one's that had all rights reserved.

This has hit Digg but at only 200 or so Diggs, it doe's not seam to be as outragous as forcing us all to use y! Id's.

The fall out on the Flickr froums can be read here, with talk of class action law suits against flickr thou I doubt any one with the new yahoo TOS could ever sue them, but mabye old skoolers with the old flickr TOS could?

Thanks to SteveFE—Old Skool Flickr says up yours Yahoo!'s Who took the screen dump above, for alerting the flickr comunity. Which has now started to label all pics with the Wii tag. If you look at the above pic on Flickr in large you can see the subversion.

Yahoo is the worst of all the web companys, I have yahoo account and ever time I go to use it I have to reset my password even 3 hours later I can not log in. I have to request a new password, If you think I am doing that every time I login to Flickr your mistaken.

If you want to get your pics out of Flickr then you could try Flickr backup. I have yet to try any method of gettign my pics out of Flickr, Tbh I dont have clue which ones I have and which ones where passed to me on cd and then uploaded and the CD binned, just cos I am like that.

Vista - Driver Signing Bypass

Vist is only just out in fact even befor it was out it was hacked and now the much hated DRM for Hi-Def dvd and Blue ray has been bypassed,

The great thing about the code I’ve written is that it does NOT use test signing mode and it does NOT load an unsigned driver into the system. Therefore, to any A/V application running, the system seems totally safe — when in fact, it’s not. Now, because I’m still booting with a special flag, it’s possible for Microsoft to patch the PMP and have it report that this flag is set, thereby disabling premium content. However, beause I already have kernel-mode code running at this point, I can disable this flag in memory, and PMP will never know that it was enabled. Again, Microsoft could fight this by caching the value, or obfuscating it somewhere inside PMP’s kernel-mode code, but as long as it’s in kernel-mode, and I’ve got code in kernel-mode, I can patch it.

Go alex ionescu as long as some out there at M$ can think of a way to brake our pc's someone else can think of a way to fix them again.

Four FUTURAMA Movies Going to DVD

But lets face it thats not an option for all of us, most people dont even know how to set the timer on their VCR never mind crack DRM.

A month after the first signs appeared online that AACS—the content protection scheme shared by HD DVD and Blu-ray—had been circumvented, the AACS Licensing Authority has verified the hack. According to a statement from the AACS LA, AACS has not been seriously compromised. Instead, the statement said, the attack is "limited to the compromise of specific implementations" and "indicate[s] an attack on one or more players sold by AACS licensees."

Of course the DRM criple where side has to say "sticks and stones will brake my bones but your nasty circumventions wont stop us from braking your pc :P" Dont you just love them, not.

CANNES, France, Jan. 22 — As even digital music revenue growth falters because of rampant file-sharing by consumers, the major record labels are moving closer to releasing music on the Internet with no copying restrictions — a step they once vowed never to take.

Executives of several technology companies meeting here at Midem, the annual global trade fair for the music industry, said over the weekend that at least one of the four major record companies could move toward the sale of unrestricted digital files in the MP3 format within months.

What's the "Scroll Lock" key on my computer for?

To be honest I did not have a clue my self, and I have been using computers since I was 12.

The main intent of the Scroll Lock key was to allow scrolling of screen text up, down and presumably sideways using the arrow keys in the days before large displays and graphical scroll bars. You can see where this might have been handy in the DOS era, when screen output typically was limited to 80 characters wide by 25 rows deep. For some types of programs, spreadsheets being the obvious example, it's still handy now. In Microsoft Excel, Scroll Lock allows you to scroll a spreadsheet with the arrow keys without moving the active cell pointer from the currently highlighted cell. In Quattro Pro, another spreadsheet program, Scroll Lock works in a similar manner, although in contrast to Excel it's not possible to scroll the active cell pointer completely off the screen.

I have just been reading over at boing boing, how the crazy in Japan for smaller and smaller, and more unusual looking dogs is driving them to bread dogs that never should be bread, The dogs can be sold for up $10,000 for the more rarer ones, but the rear dogs are only bread by breading a pair. Then breading the farther form the first breading with the daughter produced by that breading and then again breading the same dog with his granddaughter.

The practice is causing all sorts of problems in the dogs as they are infect being inbreed for the sake of fashion. What's worse is that to days fad is tomorrow dust bin filling, lets face there is not exactly a lot of room in Japan, know for its tight living accommodation.

As far as I am concerned dog's as fashion accessories should not be done, if don't like your little black dress you stop wearing it, are you going to stop feeding your dog?

I have just watched an excellent program on BBC 1 about the internet and the future of the world and how though the internet information will be disseminated and that the age of broadcast technology was actual blip upon the radar and wont really be seen again.

It looked at word of mouth and how thought word of mouth new media will be distributed, it got me thinking how everything I do on the net was American, all the blogs I read are written by Americans, all he pod casts are made by Americans and so on and so on.

It got me to thinking why do I have such a big disconnect, I could not name one UK web site other than the register. Simple I guess its that in the past there simple hasn't been any UK web sites worth visiting we just seam to be so far behind the times.

I mean take the BBC web site it seams to publish less and lessa cutal news all the time, and jsut seams to take the govermants poitn of view at all times it has turned in to the goverments monkey.

The Ouran Anime is officially finished. That's right, people. No more weekly Ouran fix.
There has been no news of a second season and to be perfectly honest, I don't think there will be. Perhaps in the far, far, far future, but definitely not anytime soon. The anime caught up with some of the most recent manga chapters, and Hatori-sensei does not have enough content for an entire second season anyway.
So NO - there will not be a second season (not yet anyway). Please don't get your hopes up on seeing something anytime soon.
But don't be too sad! There's still the manga! And the manga is ♥. It's currently ongoing with no end in sight (yet). So don't despair! Ouran still lives on in its original form!
But if you want to know - yes, my heart is breaking too.

I have just watched the last ep of, Ouran High School Host Club and now I am depressed such a good series.

This is yet another nee jerk reaction to a problem that does not exist, How is stopping any one from looking at S&M porn going to stop those who would and should be in a mental asylum if not for the fact that the government has cut funding so much that we are now stuck with care in the community.

You only have to read the governments own consultation to see that out of 313 people who where questioned 223 thought the new law was a bad idea.

Their report says about 50,000 people signed a petition asking for these laws. Of those, 90 responded to the consultation in favor, ie excluding organizations - such as GCHQ - who submitted a response. Yet 223 individuals responded against. That suggests a large number of people are privately against the proposals. So this might not be a wise political move for a Government already under broad attack for dismantling civil liberties.

Even the BBC is having to defend its self after being inundated with so many messages against this law that the editors of the Ten o'clock news has had to comment on the official BBC blog.

Out of 71 comments the majority think this law is a bad idea, apart from Liz Longhurst, and here 50k army (most of which probably only signed up because they where ambushed on the street and signed out of pity or guilt, after all why do you sign any thing in the street?) No one thinks this is a good idea.

I have already emailed my MP using writetothem.com I love this site and use it to talk to any of my elected representatives any time I have a problem with he way the country's run, and the best bit is they have written back 100% of the time.

So stopping letting our government get more and more detached from the majority while the vocal minority takes over!

Go and let them know how crap this law is.

Technophilia has a great list up called "Around the World in 23 clicks" Some of the site's on it are not for ever one. Two I have found and have started to use,

• Last.FM, Is way to share you play list's live over the internet as you listen to find new musci based on what your listening to, not to sure if like the idea of every thing I play in winamp showing up in a list Aka porn, but I am willing to give it a go for the time beeing and see how it works.
• netvibes, Is my new home page, I use google.com atm, but tbh I only use becsue nothing better has been around, and I have used the net for over 12 years now. I have yet to find any thing I would actualy use.
  Even with google as my home page I still use the google serch tool bar in Firefox rather than the one on the webage, so its not like I am using it.

WiFi router with BitTorrent

The ASUS WL-700gE is a WiFi router. The usual stuff, nowadays. But it is the perfect companion of die-hard file-sharers.

Why? Because the router comes with a 160GB hard drive AND a BitTorrent client. (via p2pnet)

Such a system has two main advantages. First: It keeps downloading big files, podcasts and movies while the PC is switched off.

Second: Chunks of files come to your router and are stored into the hard drive, meaning they don’t need to be transmitted via airwaves to your computer. The WiFi LAN speed should thus be higher, increasing the audio quality and the quality of service of VoIP calls.

I want one cool or what, I have to have my pc in bed room and there is no way I could sleep with it on of a night, this would suit me perfectly.

Democracy Player / Diggnation

I have had Democracy player for a while now, but did not really start using it till the new version came out and you could chosse where to save the videos and not just be stuck saving them on your C: drive.

Its a great program since using it I have stopped watching TV alltogether! Thou to be fair all I have watched is the 57 eps of Diggnation at 30 mins each its take up some time, Diggnation rocks!

Diggnation is based of Digg also well worth a look, If you have not seen or heard off it you have to go check it out.

There is however litrally hundreds of channels on Democracy player, if you want to watch it there is some one out there making it.

PS3 Interface

This is beeing touted as first look at the PS3 interface and I have to say it looks nice, but is prity much the same as the PSP one. I have ps2 but only ever used it to play Soulcalibur II, so not sure if i going to drop out for a PS3 yet, unless there is a Soulcalibur III.

London Motor Show

I Just got back from the London Motor show at Excel, tbh it was poor, compared to when its been at the NEC, I relies Birmingham does not have the same international cache as London, but the show was so poor in London it was hardly worth putting on.

Never mind the fact that placing the show in London puts it an extra 300 miles from me, or that to get there you have to go by train so have to book everything 5 to 6 weeks in advance so it only cost £12 rather than £120.

It take's real planning to be able to go to the London show and two days, at least with Birmingham you could drive down in the morning and drive home again for £50 for the lot of you, not £60 each London now does.

The stands where smaller and the show poorer only two cars compared to the 30 or 40 that where in the live action show at the NEC.

Tsubasa Chronicles

I found the Tsubasa Chronicles completey by accident on one of my go mad follow every link kind of days (that used to be every day but now not so much), Bascially there was such an up roar about the ending of Cardcaptor Sakura from CLAMP.

This new manga series by CLAMP has an interesting plot of its own, but it also has many references to other CLAMP characters from previous works; a type of alternate universe story. Examples of crossover characters include Mokona & Rayearth from Magic Knight Rayearth, Chii from Chobits, and Sakura, Syaoran, Touya, Yukito, and Tomoyo from Cardcaptor Sakura. (One large note to keep in mind: This is NOT a sequel to Cardcaptor Sakura)

Some chapters cross over with chapters from XXXHolic. CCS characters look older, but the resemblances are still there. Sakura is a princess of a country, while Syaoran is the son of the late archaeologist Fujitaka. Touya rules as king of the country, and Yukito is the priest. Syaoran is the "chosen one" though, while Sakura has her own secret, magical powers. They are unaware of the trouble that will soon befall the two though...

I love Fye, in so many anime these days the lead chars talk and talk and talk about them selfs to the point that you knew them better than your mum and dad. Its nice not to know everythign about them int he first 2 eps.

You just have to check out this guy's work over on ping mag.

While you at it have a look at the paper robots they rock!

Ping mag has g8 pod cast to, thou most of them tend to be presentations in Japanese with two translators explaining what's going on. Unless your really in to your Art and design, you may find them a bit heavy.

I find the pauses in translation infuriating, just because they make every thing sound so good I want to know what their are talking about.
